Search Engine Optimization
Web Design | Print Design | Web Hosting | Domain Registration | Search Engine OptimizationWe include basic search engine optimization into every web site we design and develop.
What We Optimize
- Title Tag ~ Every HTML page will have a unique and appropriate title tag, based on the content of the individual page.
- Keywords Tag ~ Each page will have an appropriate keywords tag. Keyword will be selected based on the content you provided for that page, unless keyword research has been contracted for.
- Description Tag ~ Each page will have an appropriate and unique description tag using the keyword for the page.
- Links~ Whenever possible, links to internal pages shall utilize the keyword in the text. Each link shall include a "title" tag.
- File Names ~ Whenever possible, file names will reflect the subject contained in the file.
- Heading Tags ~ Heading tags will be used (and formatted with CSS) where appropriate.
In addition to the above basics, we can do keyword research for you to determine what keywords are being used to search for the products you offer. We do this using WordTracker and will provide a print out of the results and our recommendations based on the results. The hourly rate for research is $35.00. If you prefer, you may do the research yourself and provide us with the keywords you wish to target.
Other Work
Promoting (or hiring someone to promote) your web site is ultimately your responsibility. There are many individuals out there who seek to gain income through your ignorance and the services many offer are ultimately worthless and possibly harmful.
Don't:
- Have your web site submitted to "hundreds, thousands or millions" of search engines. The majority of search engine traffic will come from Google, Yahoo, MSN, Ask Jeeves, Lycos, ExactSeek, AllTheWeb, HotBot, Excite, Webcrawler & DogPile. There are some important general web directories that may also send some traffic (or help with your rankings), these are DMOZ, JoeAnt. Other smaller engines do exist, but will not send any real traffic to your web site What you may actually be submitted to are FFA links pages, which can generate 100s of SPAM messages a day.
- Link to anyone and everyone who offers you a reciprocal link. Link only to quality sites that you don't mind losing your visitors to.
- Pay someone who guarantees you'll be "#1 on every search engine overnight". If you don't control the search engine you can't guarantee a ranking there. Period.
- Expect your site to rise to #1 overnight. Search engines can take from a week to several months before they index your site and even then you might not be in the top 20.
- Use hidden text (same foreground/background) on your site. It's considered SPAM and may very well cause your site to be blacklisted!
Do:
- Look for topic-specific directories to submit to. These are usually free.
- Look for related (but not competing) web sites you could receive a link from. If you sell beauty products, look for sites that target users of beauty products (make up tips pages, fashion pages, etc.) but not sites that are selling beauty products! Remember, related but not competing. If they request a link back, make sure it's a site that you want your visitors to go to!
- Write keyword rich content for your web site!
- Gain links from related, high quality web sites with your keywords in the anchor text.
Whatever you do when it comes to marketing your web site, be cautious. Search engines can (and will!) ban your web site from their index if you don't play by the rules. Read the search engines TOS and be sure you're web site is in compliance!
